Fredrik Börjesson
TEST LEAD AND REQUIREMENT SPECIALIST
Fredrik has more than 10 years of experience in the field of software test and requirement handling; the majority of the years were spent within the heavily regulated biotech industry. He has as a consultant experienced many different challenging and rewarding roles: tester, test lead, requirement analyst, requirement engineer; and recently as a requirement tutor. Requirement engineering is an underdeveloped field in the IT-industry with great potential for improvement. Fredrik has as a tester and test leader seen firsthand how faulty requirements are damaging software projects. Damaged projects are expensive and the industry needs to change its approach of how requirements are handled in order to be more cost effective. Fredrik will share his ideas and knowledge in order to drive the change. His goal is to help colleagues and customers to minimize the potential damage through healthy requirement engineering; and to challenge the traditional way of viewing requirement engineering. His motto is “Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler”. Fredrik will post mainly in Swedish with occasional posts in English.

Requirements? Good enough? Part 1
Fredrik Börjesson, Test lead and Requirement Specialist : 30 November 2010 / 10:23 PM : 0
How does your dream house look like?
Can you get it for $5 million? What if I give you $50 000, can you still get your dream house?
Will $5000 do? Yes? No?
When does the dream house cease to be your dream house and becomes just an - ordinary house?
-What house is good enough to be your dream house?
And now, please list the features that define your dream house.
We can all agree on the concept of a house; roof, walls, doors and windows, but as I showed in my previous post, we can picture two completely different houses. So, we need to focus on the defining features. Defining features are not only details, the...

Requirements, they shall be perfect?
Fredrik Börjesson, Test lead and Requirement Specialist : 15 November 2010 / 9:57 AM : 3
Let me buy you a car. A car that you want, nicer than the one you own. No, wait; let me build you a car for your money. Sign here.
How does your future car look like in your mind?
Do you think it is the same car as I picture?
Most likely – no. Even though we are both thinking of a car and both are correct are they not the same. Interpretation of phrases is done all the time, also with requirements.
In order to erase all risk of misunderstanding the requirements need to be perfect, right?
So, what is perfect? Perfect, in that sense that the receiver totally understands the sender. That communication betwe...
